A 7-Day Skincare Routine with Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil

A gentle way to introduce the golden oil into your evenings, and what to expect week by week.

A 7-Day Skincare Routine with Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil — Amberbio Journal

Sea buckthorn berry oil is unusual. It is deeply orange, almost startlingly so, and it smells faintly of ripe fruit. A little goes a very long way. Here's how to introduce it to your skincare — slowly, gently, honestly.

Before you begin

This is a potent single-ingredient oil. If you are new to face oils entirely, or have very sensitive or reactive skin, we recommend a patch test first — a drop on the inside of your wrist for 24 hours. If it settles calmly, you're ready to bring it into your routine.

Days 1 to 3 — Low and slow

Every evening, after cleansing and any water-based serum, warm one drop between your palms. Press gently onto damp skin — cheeks first, then forehead, then jaw. Do not rub. The oil should feel like it is being absorbed into moisture, not sitting on top of it. Leave it as your final step, or seal with a light moisturiser.

One drop, warmed, pressed onto damp skin. That is the entire technique.

Days 4 to 5 — Notice the tone

By the middle of the week, most people notice a subtle warmth to their complexion — a small pinkness the day after use, and a slightly more even tone by morning. The carotenoids in the oil are doing quiet work. If any orange tint appears on skin, it will wash off with your morning cleanse. Reduce to every other night if your skin feels overly warm.

Sea buckthorn is naturally photoprotective, but it does not replace sunscreen. Always finish your morning with SPF.

Days 6 to 7 — Add a morning drop, if you like

By the end of a week, many people layer a single drop under their morning moisturiser as well — particularly in colder months. If your skin is oilier, keep it as an evening ritual only.

What one bottle lasts

30 ml, at one drop nightly, lasts roughly three to four months. Store away from direct sunlight, with the dropper closed. If the oil ever looks lighter or smells different, it has oxidised — bin it and open a fresh bottle. Living oils are like this. It is part of their honesty.

Two more notes. If you pair it with our Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil (which brings Omega-3, 6, 9 and a lighter feel), you'll have the full skincare duo — and a small extra saving at checkout.

Frequently asked

People also ask

How do you use sea buckthorn oil on the face?

One drop, warmed between palms, pressed gently onto damp skin after cleansing. Do not rub. Start once a night, then increase to morning + night after a week if your skin is happy.

Does sea buckthorn oil stain the skin?

It has a naturally deep-orange colour, but any temporary tint on skin washes off with your morning cleanse. One drop is more than enough — using less avoids any tint entirely.

How long before I see results with sea buckthorn oil?

A subtle warmth and evenness in tone often appears within the first week. General nourishment and support for the skin's natural moisture barrier tend to build over 6–8 weeks of consistent use. For any specific skin concern, please consult a dermatologist.

Can I use sea buckthorn oil during the day?

Yes, sparingly under moisturiser — but always finish with SPF in the morning. Sea buckthorn is naturally photoprotective, but it is not a sunscreen.
